The Stranger
Plot
In 1930s Algiers, Meursault leads an emotionally detached life until the death of his mother and a tragic incident on a sun-drenched beach alter his fate forever. As he stands trial, society seems more interested in judging his indifference than his actions. François Ozon's elegant adaptation of Albert Camus' timeless novel explores existentialism, morality and the absurd with striking black-and-white cinematography and remarkable restraint.
